About Us

Growing up in a small town, I was quite a bashful child, but very outspoken! Being raised by a single parent of 2 children, and also being a Latchkey Kid, and having to sometimes prepare after school snacks (that were not ordinary) for me and my big brother, became the norm. Often times I would watch cooking shows, like Julia Childs, and Justin Wilson, Emeril Lagasse, and a few other pioneers, learning a few techniques from them! Most of my baking skills came from my mother, Evelyn Joyce Pierce Chivers, and also my paternal grandmother Emma Lee Washington. I always loved experimenting with different dishes at home, especially during the summer months, when mom was away at work, and we were out of school.

Little did she know, I was in her kitchen mixing up eggs, butter, flour, and sugar, making up all sorts of creative things, that no one would eat! Not even my big brother, who was 2 years older than I! There were many holidays that I would sit up in a chair, and watch my mother prepare dinner for her entire family to come by and enjoy. She always made sure that she prepared the best food, and lots of it, so that everyone would get full and not have to worry about being hungry for the rest of the day!

Whenever I wasn’t watching my mom, I would watch my paternal grandmother, the Late Matriarch of the Washington family of Nash, Texas. My grandmother sowed many values unto me, and it was more than just cooking! She taught me perseverance and how to weather many storms, growing up! She taught me how to stay focused and how to always keep God First, and be all that I can be! During the nearly 40 years that I was blessed to have my grandmother in my life, little did I know , she was molding me. She spoke words of wisdom into my life, and taught me the purpose of living and how to always remain humble, even during difficult times.

After working my last job at FedEx, for nearly 15 years, I decided, with the help of my Life Coach, that it was time for me to tale a leap and retire early from my job.
